Meta-analysis Confirms Two Observers Better Than One for Polyp Detection

Meta-analysis Confirms Two Observers Better Than One for Polyp Detection

Douglas K. Rex, MD, FASGE reviewing Aziz M, et al. Clin Gastroenterol Hepatol 2019 Oct 4.

Among 5 randomized controlled trials, 2 observers increased the adenoma detection rate (ADR) from 29.5% to 33.9%. In 19 cohort studies, ADR increased from 28.5% to 38.2%. Of the cohort studies, 16 were fellow only, and in these, ADR increased from 28.2% to 38.0%.

COMMENT
Although everyone who has time and can watch the screen should, it’s particularly important that low detectors be open to help from second observers.

Note to readers: At the time we reviewed this paper, its publisher noted that it was not in final form and that subsequent changes might be made.
