Gastroesophageal reflux disease with endoscopically identifiable lesions (erosions, stricture, Barrett’s esophagus) is defined as erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Fewer than 50% of patients with typical GERD symptoms have endoscopically recognizable mucosal lesions.
